BRINGING IN THE (CHINESE) NEW YEAR IN KOTA KINABALU

We just got back from an amazing, restful time in Kota Kinabalu.  We stayed on the resort the whole time, normally I would force us out on an exploration, but relaxing was just what we needed.  We hung out by the pool for most of the week, with an occasional jaunt to the beach.

Tae really took to the water. He kept telling me he was a transformer, that he transforms into a fish. The pool was perfect because it allowed for him to stand up, so that put me at ease and allowed me to focus on our fearless girl. She loved the pool, water, and taking all the toys left by other kids.

Our girl still isn't a fan of the sand, she fusses when she touches it. At some point she decides it's okay and just dives right in.  She spent hours digging and covering my feet, each time funnier than the last.

A few days we filled up the bath on our balcony for the kiddos and they had their own personal pool.  Tae is in the obsession phase of Dinotrux, so it was a special treat when we allowed him to bring them to the pool one day.  He watched them like a hawk, and quickly decided they were too precious to risk losing.

Tae's favorite thing to do was go down the slide. It was fun to watch him develop his confidence.  The first day one of us had to go with him and catch him.  By the end of the week he did it all by himself on repeat. He must have gone at least 50 times in a row. He was always polite and would talk to the lifeguard to ask if he was allowed to go yet.  We laughed because when they went with Mama they flew down the slide at breakneck speed, but with Dad they crept down the slide like a snail.  Needless to say, they both wanted to go with me!

It was a great vacay. I'm always reminded how big our God is and how much he has blesses us with intentional family time. He showed off every single night with the sunset. Tae and Elea kept pointing out the colors they observed, it changed so fast they couldn't keep up!
