Monte Sião

Yesterday a group of girls went to Monte Sião to go broke buy some unique Brazilian pottery.  The little town is about 1.5 hours from where we live and the drive is beautiful.  The town in nestled in the mountains so took our time with all the curves and enjoyed some girl time.

I could have spent the whole day looking at pottery and picking out the perfect pieces, but we had more shopping planned in another little town.  Originally I was thinking of buying our everyday plate settings.  Since we didn't buy any in the States when we got married I thought we needed some.  One of my friends changed my mind and convinced me to just buy serving dishes or statement dishes and then I can buy a solid color place setting that coordinates with the pottery.

We went into the factory and got to see the process for making the pottery.  It was pretty impressive and neat to see the workers making it by hand.  It makes the pottery that much more special for me!

Creating the pieces...
Hand painting them...

The finished products..so many to choose from!  I had a really hard time deciding between the blue or brown.

My purchases for the day...
 1-Water Pitcher
2. Vase (I got in the brown)
3. Serving bowl
4, 5, 6 & 8. Serving dishes (came in a group)
7. Dip bowl/plate
9. Little bowls to put my wedding and engagement rings in when I take them off
(one for bathroom, kitchen, bedside table)
10. Flat dish for decoration

I also got some beer glasses for Jess at a different store and some other pieces of pottery for some gifts. Overall it was a great time and I adore all the pieces I bought.  Jess was happy with them too!

I'll leave you with a delicious coconut treat...

São Paulo Weekend Getaway

We had Friday off of school so we took advantage and spent the long weekend in São Paulo.  It is a huge city and we had a blast exploring it and enjoying the great food, art, and weather.  Friday night we went to the Mercado to explore the goods and eat some pastels.
We enjoyed the best shrimp and fish (yuck, they were for Jess) pastels and some drinks.  I actually had a tomato (if you know me you know I hate tomoatoes) Caipirinha, which was delicious. Also, I can't believe it, but we found napkins that are worse than the ones in China. Seriously, think oil bloating papers, they are hard and don't absorb anything.  We went through a million in one meal!

We spent most of the weekend walking around exploring the city.  We stayed in  the Jardins, which is really nice with lots of little shops and restaurants around it.  All over the area the phone booths were painted differently.  Here are some of our favorites.
Jess took a walk around the area and took a bunch of pictures.  I think they turned out great!
All of São Paulo is covered in art.
It was a great, relaxing weekend in our new city (kinda, only one hour away).

Sick...

the whole dang weekend.  No fun, but I did catch up on some American TV and lots-o-sleep.  Let's just say the Nettipot and I were BFF. It ended up being a blessing in disguise (isn't God great!) because it was my hubby's birthday on Saturday and he was out of town for work.  So instead of being a party pooper I was off the hook.

This was me, minus the ears, hat, and calculator watch.

And no mom I'm not the worst wife ever, I did pamper Jess on his birthday.  More on that later.
